The backpack or knapsack s, in its simplest form, a cloth sack carried on one's back and secured with two straps that go over the shoulders. It is a staple for men and sometimes women in this modern age. Nowadays, we use backpacks in our everyday lives, from carrying our laptops to work, serves as our gym bag or even used as a bug out bag for survivalists. The backpack is very popular due to the ease in handling and being extremely versatile.
In ancient times, the backpack was used as a means to carry the hunter's larger game and other types of prey and as a way of easier transport for other materials. In the cases of larger hunts, the hunters would dismember their prey and distribute the pieces of the animal around, each one packing the meat into many wrappings and then into bags which they placed on to their backs. The bag itself was made up of different animal hide and skin (depending on what sorts of animals were in the area) and sewn together by animal intestines, which were woven together tightly to make a sturdy thread-like material.
The backpack's importance cannot be belittled in surviving the urban jungle. In today's concrete jungle, we have different kinds of predators, most abundant is the pick pocket. These pick pockets usually target their victim's pockets, hence the name. But they also go after back packs as these re easy pickings. Since the pack is worn at the back, so victims are usually blindsided by pickpockets. The solution, wear it the other way! The brainy commuter eliminates the blind spot by wearing the pack at the front. I, myself do this regularly when riding the train to avoid thieves.
